Balancing multiple preps can be one of the most challenging things for a secondary science teacher to do, but it is possible to simplify and reduce the stress of balancing multiple preps. Two of the biggest struggles for balancing multiple preps are lesson planning and determining how to manage grading.
In episode 9, I shared my five best tips for how to lesson plan for three or more preps. Be sure to go back and catch that episode because it will save you so much time and make your life with multiple preps so much easier!
In today’s episode, we’re going to specifically address struggle number two, which is grading for all of those preps. Most of the teachers I talk to are spending way more time on grading than they need to. Balancing multiple preps requires making tough decisions because you only have so much time and energy. One of those tough decisions is changing how you manage grading.
First, you have to stop grading everything, and then when you do grade something, it must be incredibly intentional. When you do this, you will reclaim so much time that can be spent doing other things, like finding new fun labs or engaging activities for your students. You will have more free time.
You’ll also be more recharged so that when you are at school, you’ll have more energy to love your students, and when you’re at home, you can actually enjoy your time off. When you do collect something to grade, you’re going to actually have the time and energy to provide really helpful feedback to your students that will impact their learning and success.
Get ready to revolutionize your grading and take back your time with the tips I share in this episode!
